Mummys don't like cats!!!... :)

In The Mummy, the resurrected high priest Imhotep is terrified of cats because of ancient Egyptian beliefs. In real history, cats were sacred animals in Egypt — revered as protectors of the dead and even deified. The goddess Bastet, for example, was worshipped as a cat-headed deity. --- Movies & TV Stack Exchange. In the film’s context, Imhotep, as an undead being, likely sees cats as guardians of the afterlife. This superstition mirrors how vampires in folklore are repelled by crosses — a symbol of holy protection. The cat becomes a symbolic “holy” object that Imhotep, being unholy and undead, instinctively fears. --- Movies & TV Stack Exchange. The fear is also a narrative device. It’s a simple, memorable moment that contrasts Imhotep’s ancient, mystical nature with the modern, everyday world of Rick O’Connell and his cat. It also sets up a recurring gag: whenever Imhotep sees a cat, he flees, which becomes a running joke in the movie.
